Osaka Castle 3D Mapping Super Illumination

A Rare Treat of Light and Sound this Winter

A sure highlight of this winter is the return of one of Japan’s most recognized attractions, the Osaka Castle 3D Mapping Super Illumination. This light & sound show is a rare treat that attracted over 590,000 spectators last year, bringing crowds to witness the spectacular 3D projection mappings onto the castle monument that is now designated as one of the most important Japanese Tangible Cultural Properties. Critics have said that it is “Out of this world”, and named it the “Greatest Illumination Show!”

This year the spectacle returns anew with even more thrill, excitement, and overwhelming dimensionality to mark the special commemoration of the 400th anniversary since the Winter and Summer siege of Osaka (Osaka’no Jin)- the vital battles that lead to the unification of Japan under the consolidated political power of the Tokugawa Shogunate. A collaboration between the Osaka Government Tourism Bureau and Nagasaki Huis Ten Bosch, this unique sound & lights festival will transform the castle grounds into a stage for a once in a lifetime winter experience that is not to be missed!

Filling the vast Nishinomaru garden grounds will be a myriad of illumination installations from the Big Blue, a massive wave of light in expansion, to the luxurious baroque garden experience of music and lights, the Jewel Illumination Show. And without mention, high attention to the awaited revelation of the pyramid shaped objet d’art that is said to be the largest of its kind in Japan.
Osaka invites its visitors to experience not only the vast cultural and historical diversity the city usually beholds, but also rare events that encompass elements from the ancient times to the most modern of attractions.

A story that transports its spectators through different dimensions
400 years have passed since the Winter and Summer siege of Osaka (Osaka’no Jin). In commemoration of these battles, this year’s 3D projection mapping story will draw inspiration and feature the Castle’s renaissance through a mélange of history, artistic creativity, and overwhelming three dimensionality; re-evoking an experience not of the past, nor present onto the very walls that shaped Japan.
